A hunting we will go

Today I spent the day doing a little dusty hunting and thankfully I wasn't disappointed. A relative visiting from out of town wanted to do some hunting so we ventured out into the cold to see what we could find. While the pickings were a little slim, we did come across a couple nice treats. We of course found some Stitzel Weller Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond and Prime. The two 750ml Old Fitz BIB's are both Bernhiem whiskey bottled by Heaven Hill. The other Fitz's are all Stitzel Weller. The Old Charter 12 year is great bourbon using a high corn mashbill. I picked up some oddities; Bourbon deLuxe and Kentucky Gentlemen. We also found some JTS Brown, JW Dant BIB, Ten High and Wild Turkey in the hexagon shaped bottle. The bottles range in bottling date from 1982 to 2006. All in all, not a bad day of hunting.

  2. Greg good to see you are alive and doing well.
I am happy to see the VOB re-barrel project is doing well. Nice find on the Old Charter 12yo and the others. The Classic 90 has become a favorite of mine as of late. To bad it is not around at all any more.

  3. Nice finds Greg. Are you still working off your DC grid search or are these from places you have visited before and went back just to see?

  4. Howie - I revisited a couple stores where I had left stuff behind so my nieces husband could get a couple things. We then used the grid for SE DC where we found the WT handle and the OC12.

  5. The Old Charter 12 year is always a nice find. In the last year I think I've pulled around a dozen bottles from hunting. OC 7 yr is pretty much in every store so I pass on those. We did find an OC 10 year and BIB last year so those were nice finds.

  7. I just found 2 bottles of J.W. Dant BIB this morning, distilled at DSP-KY-113, bottled at DSP-KY-16, c. 1989.

    This a fun game!

They also had some Tom Moore BIB from about the same period. Any opinions on that whiskey?

  8. Whooo nelly! Those are nice finds and dusty BIB's are some of my favorite. The JW Dant BIB is a pretty good bourbon from that time frame. As for the Tom Moore; grab that one also. That should be some mighty fine Barton Brand bourbon. Nicely done.

  9. The J.W. Dant BIB is delicious; it has an especially long finish of brown sugar.

These bottles are at the very sketchiest liquor store in town, so getting in there takes patience and timing. The owners were very nice and took a shine to me, so I think I might be able to get into the storeroom.

  11. I just unearthed 2 bottled of JW Dant Americana Series Bourbon, circa 1969 I believe, from a house tear down. One is "The Alamo" bottle the other is the "Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death" bottle. Both in boxes and Tax Stamp Sealed! It is going to be a very good New Year's Eve!

    1. Have not seen either of those but sounds like they are decanters? Confirm?
