Just in case you're wondering, I really love bourbon but every so often, a funk sets in and it's just not appealing to me. I'm in one right now and I can't get too excited over the thing I really have a passion for. This has happened before and it's almost like my body is telling me "ok, time for break……no bourbon for you!" I did have a small pour this evening but didn't finish it. The bourbon I poured was Rowans Creek and is a good bourbon from Kentucky Bourbon Distillers but even after a week's dry spell, I couldn't get too jazzed about sitting on the front porch and having a dram of Rowans. I like cigars also and have been indulging in a stick more often than I used to and when I smoked in the past, it was usually paired with a nice complimentary bourbon . Over the last week, it's been a solo show with cigar only. I spoke to a friend of mine today who's a huge cigar guy and mentioned to him I was in a bourbon funk and he commented that he hasn't had a cigar in nearly two weeks. So, I guess when the funk sets in on bourbon or cigars, best to just ride it out. I just hope it's a short trip.
Greg:
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your funk. I kind of have to take a break from different things periodically or I get sick of them. It could be due to a change of seasons or perhaps less hours of daylight. I know I've been real tired at night, when I usually have a dram, and the last couple of nights I have opted to go to bed instead of staying up a little later with a drink. You might try going to Bourbonblog.com as they have a whole section on what they call "Mixology". Perhaps you might find a mix that you will like and be able to kick start your taste buds. What ever the issue is, I hope you get through it quickly and go back to enjoying your indulgences.
Cheers
Don
Thanks Don. I'm sure I'll get better soon. I don't think my bourbon is going anywhere. :)
ReplyDeleteGreg I am glad to hear it is not just me. Sense the FR tasting I have not been in the mood to have a pour. I am not sure what it is but I to have poured a few and just wasn't feeling it.
ReplyDeleteDan - I'm enjoying some OWA tonight. It was a long freakin day and some OWA and a cigar was just the ticket. Bourbon's tasting mighty fine tonight.
ReplyDeleteGreg after all the different bourbons I tried at the gazebo at the KBF I don't want anything other than WT 101 for a while. So I kind of know how you feel.
ReplyDeleteGreg:
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are back in the saddle! OWA is a great way to do that!
Greg,
ReplyDeleteI work in a wine/liquor store and it is just the way things go. When I'm sick of the wine I go to the booze, and when I'm sick of booze I hit the beer. Repeat.
David - you're correct. I find that when I'm not drinking bourbon, I'll hit some beer. One of my favorites right now is from Allagash.
