But for some reason Nectar D'Or runs nearly $20 more per bottle. I guess the Sauternes barrels are more expensive than port or sherry. Still one would think all three of the main Extra Matured line should be priced the same.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215982348779717643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-69252893289191028402012-06-27T00:10:47.333-04:002012-06-27T00:10:47.333-04:00I'll modify my statement and put it more aroun...I'll modify my statement and put it more around $25. At the time of the post, I think the LaSanta was on sale for around $35. The Macallan runs $60 in my area. At that point of the conversation we were guessing on the price of the Macallan so was off by a bit. I love paying a value price for a very good whisky and I think the LaSanta falls into that category.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03084821666852687199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-23416483496984784622012-06-26T08:53:19.187-04:002012-06-26T08:53:19.187-04:00Greg,

In my neck of the woods it's more like $5 cheaper, as both are right around $50. Were you referring to an older McCallan perhaps?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-41244655465491021712012-06-20T18:34:49.053-04:002012-06-20T18:34:49.053-04:00I guess you're not a fan.....nothing wrong wit...I guess you're not a fan.....nothing wrong with that.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03084821666852687199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-75716108537972131742012-06-20T18:34:13.411-04:002012-06-20T18:34:13.411-04:00I was actually pleased to see the pricing on many ...I was actually pleased to see the pricing on many of these selections. While the bourbon finish is always pleasing, the second finish on these are also very nice and to me, provide another level of enjoyment.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03084821666852687199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-86279430205586699812012-06-19T10:33:12.381-04:002012-06-19T10:33:12.381-04:00blah blah blah...bourbon is the way of the world!blah blah blah...bourbon is the way of the world!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-36005859520732131752012-06-18T23:43:55.933-04:002012-06-18T23:43:55.933-04:00While there a few here that I haven't tried ye...While there a few here that I haven't tried yet, your impressions are pretty close to my own. Glenmorangie puts out some great whiskies that are also rather good values. The Original is what I'd reach for when trying to ease someone into single malts as it's robust enough to have good flavor, but not so strong that it'll overwhelm the palate. Plus, it's entirely bourbon cask matured, so there isn't anything else to get between you and the malt whisky.Jordanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06448702693643593156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-1676837871352066152012-06-18T07:55:56.552-04:002012-06-18T07:55:56.552-04:00Great notes, Greg. Glenmorangie is one of the Scotches I will go to when I'm in the mood for such, and now I have some new expressions to look for.Jeremiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08239297460106336933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-91305294539616429502012-06-18T07:44:08.110-04:002012-06-18T07:44:08.110-04:00That's an interesting fact regarding the use o...That's an interesting fact regarding the use of "seasoned" barrels. It sounds like a specific profile they were going for rather than just using generic bourbon barrels. Something I'll have to look into. Point taken on the Springbank. The Springbank is a new one to me and until recently, I didn't have any expressions but have acquired the 12 year Claret finish and the Alchemist this year. I just ordered two additional selections from K&L; 1997 Springbank 14 Year Single Madeira Barrel Cask Strength and 1998 Springbank 13 Year Single Bourbon Barrel Cask Strength. I'm sure between the 4 or 5 of use here locally, we could pull together a nice tasting of Springbank.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03084821666852687199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-75213958300473959982012-06-18T00:54:59.456-04:002012-06-18T00:54:59.456-04:00I'm still building my palate so I wouldn't...I'm still building my palate so I wouldn't be able to notice the Jack Daniel's notes. Bourbon or Tennessee whiskey notes in Scotch tend to be vanilla to me.

The Jack Daniel's angle was something I read in the late Michael Jackson's book Complete Guide to Single Malt Scotch. The Glenmorangie section mentions that prior to 1996, the distillery was having the barrels seasoned by Heaven Hill. Then after the fire Glenmorangie switched to Jack Daniel's.

Oh, I'd recommend a flight of Springbank rather than Balvenie. Like Glenmorangie they do a lot of limited edition wood finishes (and at cask strength to boot).Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215982348779717643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459913366176838409.post-56058678476354071642012-06-17T20:22:59.740-04:002012-06-17T20:22:59.740-04:00Eric - We speculated that the base mashbill was th...Eric - We speculated that the base mashbill was the same as we could pick out some similarities with some of the expressions.
